Nuevo Encasa – Tihuatlán Highway
Located between the States of Puebla and Veracruz, this work involves construction of 37 kilometers of a four-lane highway that will reduce travel time between Nuevo Necaxa and Avila Camacho. The project includes the San Marcos bridge, the second highest in the world, rising 220 meters above the riverbed.
The bridge crosses a natural protected area and several communities with high rates of poverty, so the sustainability challenges and solutions have been fundamental. This ICA project was a finalist in the 360 IDB Infrastructure Awards assessing the sustainability of various private sector projects in Latin America.
